On billy’s most recent journey into the world of the arthropods he’s brought back vast amounts of new knowledge. the findings are neatly described in a list below.
They are eusocial creatures
Various morphs are highly specialized
The swarms are actually the same race not a symbiont
Swarms are stored inside a large creature until needed
They cultivate fungus using flesh and plant material
The queen lays large egg sacs on the ceiling of a chamber above a pile of flesh
The larvae emerge once a certain temperature is reached
Larvae are strictly carnivorous
Most adults are only capable of digesting sucrose
the bulk of the colony is made up of workers and drones.
My next entry will explain the basic lifecycle of these creatures.
Billy’s curiosity never ceases to amaze me. He delves deeper into the hive each consecutive visit. He shows us more and more of their world everyday. He continues to make me proud of him.
